Doctor of Science in Oriental Medicine
Dr. Aliceia Kato-Carino, DSOM, LAc
Licensed Acupuncturist
Board certified, licensed and insured in both NY and AZ, Dr. A, as she is fondly referred to, graduated from the National University of Natural Medicine with a Doctor of Science in Oriental Medicine.
Dr. Kato-Carino is a licensed doctor of Chinese medicine seeing patients in person in New York City and via telemedicine internationally. She is also a faculty member at the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (CCATCM).
Dr. A completed her residency under renowned classical Chinese herbalist Heiner Fruehauf, PhD, LAc, founding professor of the College of Classical Chinese Medicine at NUNM and founder of the Classical Pearls herbal line. Her training is grounded in classical lineage medicine with a strong focus on treating chronic and complex conditions in modern Western populations.
She is currently in the final steps of the extensive certification process for Barral’s Visceral Manipulation method and continues advanced herbal studies with Dr. Joon Hee Lee, DAOM, LAc.
Raised receiving care from a Chinese herbalist, Dr. A experienced the power of this medicine firsthand—once in a life-saving context for her father. At 21, after a serious low back injury left her dependent on a cane and told she would live with pain indefinitely, she turned to yoga and holistic medicine. Today she is pain-free and fully mobile. This experience led her to become a certified yoga teacher before pursuing her medical training.
Her additional studies in naturopathy, functional lab work and classical Ayurveda inform a truly integrative clinical approach. Dr. A has practiced in diverse clinical settings including substance abuse recovery, women’s health, oncology support, and comprehensive family care for both acute and chronic conditions.
